The North Cyprus Society for the Protection of Birds and Nature (Kuskor) has announced that over 100 European roller chicks have been raised to fledgling in nest boxes in Haspolat.

The species has seen a "dramatic" decline in its global population in recent years, and as a result is now protected by law both in the European Union and in North Cyprus, with the Karpaz and Korucam peninsulas managed as "Specially Protected Areas" in order to conserve the species and other wildlife in the areas.
